Education:
John Swallow attended the University of Toronto where he received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971; Mr. Swallow began work as a Research Assistant at the University of Toronto in projects on Vibration, Solid Mechanics and Bio-Mechanics. Upon completing his Masters Degree in 1974 he was appointed Assistant Professor, teaching courses in Solid Mechanics, Machine Design and Engineering Design.
As an adjunct lecturer, he taught courses in Design, Acoustics and Vibration from 1975 to 1991.
Professional Background:
In 1975, Mr. Swallow joined an Acoustical Consulting firm as Senior Consultant responsible for Environmental Noise Studies, Vibration Analysis and Design/Build of Tuned Mass Dampers for large structures. On the manufacturing side he redesigned the firm’s line of vibration isolation products.
In April 1980, Mr. Swallow was one of the founding partners of Barman Coulter Swallow Associates. Since then he has been involved in Environmental Noise Projects, Vibration Analysis of Structures, Seismic Analysis of Heavy Equipment, Room and Theatre Acoustics.
Since November 1993, Mr. Swallow has continued as a Consulting Engineer and founded Swallow Acoustic Consultants Ltd. His areas of interest include Room and Theatre Acoustics, Office and Residential Acoustics, and Noise Control, Environmental Noise, Vibration Analysis, Vibration Damping of Structures and Seismic Analysis of Structures.
Mr. Swallow is a past Chairman of the International Standards Organization (ISO) Drafting Committee for the revision of the ISO 2631, the International Standard on the effects of vibration on the human body.
