Architectural Acoustics
Architectural acoustics refers to building design as it relates to acoustic function: speech intelligibility, speech privacy and music appreciation. Schools, community facilities, residential buildings, offices, theatres and cinemas, lecture halls, churches, recording & broadcast studios, and teleconference rooms all require an acoustic design that is suited to the function of the space. Generally, speech intelligibility and music appreciation are competing needs. Thus venues such as community theatres must feature a delicately balanced compromise. Alternatively, a variable acoustic design with moveable reflecting, absorbing and diffusing panels allows tailoring the facility to the type of show.
