Acoustics, Noise and Vibration Control Engineering
Acoustic and Vibration Testing
The science of acoustics involves a variety of unique tests and measurements. Some of these include background noise, construction and environmental testing to ASTM and ISO standards. Testing can be conducted to determine mock-up performance, or actual field performance of a building.
Acoustics
SACL is able to provide a number of acoustic measurements. The firm has standard acoustical equipment, including B&K and Larson Sound Level meters, and access to a tapping machine for Impact Isolation Class measurements. We have software programs such as MLSSA for measuring interior acoustics and SPECTRALYS for two channel measurements of both noise and vibration.
Vibration
SACL can also provide a full range of vibration measurement services. Vibration level assessments with comparison to ISO standards, or modal vibration analysis to predict the likelihood of future vibration problems.
SACL's vibration equipment includes accelerometers and associated data acquisition systems. SACL is also equipped with an electro-seis shaker used to excite larger structures such as floors to accurately determine mode shapes and vibration characteristics.
Examples of acoustic and vibration testing that SACL has conducted include:
- Impact Isolation Class (IIC)
- Reverberation Time (RT60)
- Field Sound Transmission Class (FSTC)
- Sound Level Monitoring for OSHA
- Sound Level Monitoring and Measurements for Noise Impact Study and CofA.
- Background Sound Level (NC, RC)
- Human Response to Vibration ISO 2631, 5249
- Vibration Monitoring
- Vibration Modal Analysis (utilizing our shaker)
